The membership of our Association is open to:

All current or retired secretaries, office volunteers, and other staff of a cooperating church that financially supports any program, institution, or agency of the Baptist State Convention of NC, and secretaries, office volunteers, or other office staff of associations, denominational agencies, institutions, departments, organizations, and the convention of the state.
Members of Baptist churches who may be considered as potential Baptist denominational secretaries.
Office staff personnel of other denominations who desire to become members of the Association, but will not be eligible for election as a state officer.

Members are entitled to voting privileges and receive NCBSA newsletters. Membership dues are $25 annually and are included in the program fee if you attend the annual conference in November.

President, Jo Ann Walton: Jo Ann is the Administrative Assistant of Pastoral Ministries at the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina where she has served since 1999. In this position she handles the following: Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, provides assistance to the Pastoral Ministries, Senior Consultant and the Church Administration Senior Consultant, Churches, Pastors, Church Staff, and Associations in ministry to North Carolina Baptists. Some of her responsibilities are supporting the Career Assessment process, Emergency Assistance team, the Sharing System (pastor/staff and church search), the Conflict Resolution Network, the New Minister Orientation, NC Baptist Ministers Wives, NC Baptist Secretaries and trains and supervises part-time employees. Jo Ann has been married 37 years to the Reverend Geary T. Walton, Pastor of Blackburn Baptist Church, Hickory, NC. They have one son, Jerry Kevin Walton, who lives in Raleigh, North Carolina and a daughter, Michelle Lesay Crain. She and her husband, Jeff live in Raleigh, Mississippi. They are the proud parents of a precious little 6 month old baby boy, named Joshua. Grandma and Grandpa just wish he wasn’t so far away!

President Elect, Angela Cockerham: Angela is the Financial Account Manager of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church where she has served since 2002. She is responsible for managing the accounts of the church and the daycare. Angela also oversees the website and DVD ministries of the church and maintains the attendance records for the Sunday School department. Prior to her work at Pleasant Hill, Angela was secretary of Elkin Baptist Association for three years. During this time she joined the NC Baptist Secretaries Association. Angela graduated from Surry Community College in May 2007, with an Associate in Applied Science degree in Accounting. She works part-time keeping “books” for several area businesses/agencies. Angela attends church at Elkin Valley Baptist Church. She has been married to her husband Jesse for 9 years, and she has two wonderful children – Aaron Corder, 24 and Alicia Corder, 23. Angela enjoys reading, watching movies, hiking, and camping.

Second Vice President, Linda Lunsford: Linda just celebrated her 5th anniversary as Faith Development Assistant at Ardmore Baptist Church in Winston-Salem. Publishing weekly newspapers and keeping track of attendance and curriculum for 45+ Sunday School classes are just part of what keeps her busy in her role at Ardmore. As well, she is owner and operator of Submission Solutions, a part-time medical billing service. God's calling on her life as a Ministry Assistant has been reaffirmed many times over, as she has offered her skills, prayer support, and encouragement to both pastors and lay persons of the church. Linda became actively involved in the NCBSA in 1995 while serving as Administrative Assistant at Robinhood Road Baptist Church, where she is currently a member. She and her husband, Sam have been married 35 years and have three grown children, Joel, Bryan and Anna. Over the past 10 years, Linda has been richly blessed by special friendships made and the continuing ministry of the NCBSA. Her hopes are that all Ministry Assistants in North Carolina will come to realize the valuable resource we have in this organization.

Secretary/Treasurer, Cathy Hawkins: Catherine Ann Hawkins (Cathy) has been a member of the North Carolina Baptist Secretaries Association for eight years. She is the Ministry Assistant of First Baptist Church of Hudson where she is also a member. She is active in the church serving as Church Clerk, Co-Acteen Director and a member of the Adult Choir. Cathy is just completing a position as Spiritual Insight Team Leader for the Caldwell Baptist Association. She loves her work at the church and has said often, “I have the best job in the world.” Cathy has grown twin daughters and five grandchildren, who all live within the county where she lives and enjoys spending time with them. Other than loving her time with the grandchildren, she enjoys reading, sewing and walking. Cathy grew up in a small community and was a member of a small church from the age of nine. Her life has been a roller coaster ride, but she thanks God that He is with her always. She feels honored to be nominated for this position and looks forward to serving you and becoming better acquainted with more of you.
