The membership of our Association is open to:

All current or retired secretaries, office volunteers, and other staff of a cooperating church that financially supports any program, institution, or agency of the Baptist State Convention of NC, and secretaries, office volunteers, or other office staff of associations, denominational agencies, institutions, departments, organizations, and the convention of the state.
Members of Baptist churches who may be considered as potential Baptist denominational secretaries.
Office staff personnel of other denominations who desire to become members of the Association, but will not be eligible for election as a state officer.

Members are entitled to voting privileges and receive NCBSA newsletters. Membership dues are $25 annually and are included in the program fee if you attend the annual conference in November.

Meet the Officers (Click on an officer's name to email them.)

President Angela Cockerham: Angela is the Financial Account Manager of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church where she has served since 2002. She is responsible for managing the accounts of the church and the daycare. Angela also oversees the website and DVD ministries of the church and maintains the attendance records for the Sunday School department. Prior to her work at Pleasant Hill, Angela was secretary of Elkin Baptist Association for three years. During this time she joined the NC Baptist Secretaries Association. Angela graduated from Surry Community College in May 2007, with an Associate in Applied Science degree in Accounting. She works part-time keeping “books” for several area businesses/agencies. Angela attends church at Elkin Valley Baptist Church. She has been married to her husband Jesse for 9 years, and she has two wonderful children – Aaron Corder, 24 and Alicia Corder, 23. Angela enjoys reading, watching movies, hiking, and camping.

First Vice President - Grace Hodge: Grace has served as the Financial Assistant for Ardmore Baptist Church since 2002. In that position, she is responsible for managing the payroll and financial accounts of the church, including those of the Winston-Salem Christian Chinese Church and the Weekday Early Education Program. Since going to Ardmore, Grace has been actively involved in the Pilot Mountain Baptist Association of Ministry Assistants and she is a dedicated and active member of the NC Baptist Secretaries Association. She is a firm believer in the networking, educational and spiritual benefits of both the local group and the NCBSA. Grace graduated from UNC-Greensboro with a Masters degree in accounting and is a licensed CPA. Grace and her husband, David, have two daughters, Paisley, age 4 and Skylar, age 2. Grace’s hobbies include scrapbooking, math puzzles and yes, even “taxes!”

2nd Vice President - Karen Brawley: Karen has served as Administrative Assistant for Berea Baptist Church, Mooresville, for sixteen years. She is responsible for the weekly newsletter and other promotional materials, manages accounts payable, payroll, manages financial accounts of the church, assists with benevolent cases and perform various other duties when called upon. In August 2004, Karen completed the Professional Certification for Ministry Assistants. She has been a member of the NCBSA for approximately fourteen years. Karen and her husband, Brad, have two children, Elizabeth, age 16 and Jeffrey, age 11.

Secretary/Treasurer, Cathy Hawkins: Catherine Ann Hawkins (Cathy) has been a member of the North Carolina Baptist Secretaries Association for eight years. She is the Ministry Assistant of First Baptist Church of Hudson where she is also a member. She is active in the church serving as Church Clerk, Co-Acteen Director and a member of the Adult Choir. Cathy is just completing a position as Spiritual Insight Team Leader for the Caldwell Baptist Association. She loves her work at the church and has said often, “I have the best job in the world.” Cathy has grown twin daughters and five grandchildren, who all live within the county where she lives and enjoys spending time with them. Other than loving her time with the grandchildren, she enjoys reading, sewing and walking. Cathy grew up in a small community and was a member of a small church from the age of nine. Her life has been a roller coaster ride, but she thanks God that He is with her always. She feels honored to be nominated for this position and looks forward to serving you and becoming better acquainted with more of you.
